Living In The World Of Barbie And Ken
When I was growing up, Barbie and Ken were my idea of the ultimate couple. They were perfect looking as individuals and if they ever had offspring, well you knew they would be knockouts. How could anything that came from the gene pool of Barbie and Ken be anything less than gorgeous?
Barbie and Ken drove the best cars. They had matching corvettes and a great motor home. I do sometimes wonder what the people that lived in Barbie’s town house thought when Barbie and Ken pulled that thing up onto the street. Chances are the neighbors didnt like it, but I am sure they never confronted Barbie and Ken for the eyesore. People never like to confront perfect Barbie and Ken like types. Now you or I, if we were to park our motor home in front of someone’s driveway, you know they would say something quicker than you could say Barbie and Ken. But then I don’t have a perfect hourglass figure and hair that keeps its perfect part no matter what you do to it.
Barbie and Ken even had the perfect job - several of them. Between them, Barbie and Ken spent time as doctors, astronauts, pro surfers, teachers, military members, and chefs. Well, now that I think about it, I don’t know if Ken ever had a job other than hanging around Malibu and growing a beard. But I guess when your girlfriend holds down so many jobs, you don’t have to work. After all, someone has to take care of the dream house and the pink poodle.
Of course Barbie and Ken had the perfect wardrobes. They had clothes for every occasion and shoes to match. Barbie even had more jewelry and accessories than ten runway models wear in a year. This couple had everything that anyone could want, and when I was a little girl I would look at them and want it all too. I wanted a corvette, my own hair salon, a pink poodle, a little sister named skipper, a dream house and a dream apartment and a Malibu Beach Barbie body.
My mother tried to tell me that real people like Barbie and Ken just don’t exist, but as I grew up, I found that they do. There are those rare people that like Barbie and Ken, seem to have it all. They are the trend setters the beautiful people. They drive the right cars, wear the right clothes and know all the right places to be seen. Like Barbie and Ken, they make absolutely perfect matches. But there is something I learned when I was four about Barbie and Ken. If you take their heads off, Barbie and Ken are hollow inside. As a grownup I have found that a lot of real life Barbie and Ken types are just as hollow as my dolls.
