Amazing Resource for Halloween Costumes

Posted by Kids and Teens in Harry Potter, People and Society

vile-jester-halloween.jpgCheck out this great repository on halloween costumes I came across yesterday. Halloween, or Hallowe’en, is a holiday celebrated on the night of October 31. This tradition originated in Ireland but later spread to Northern America. Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, ghost tours, bonfires, costume parties, visiting “haunted houses” and carving jack-o-lanterns. Halloween is celebrated in several countries of the Western world, most commonly in Ireland, the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and occasionally in parts of Australia.

The resource has a wide range of costumes on adult, kids, party, mascot, hats, wigs and masks. Halloween costumes are a treat to watch and the variety ranges from grim reaper, armored knight, evil jester, coffin adult, lady in waiting to name a few. The best I liked was the Vile Jester. This halloween costume is in a twin color format - red and black and has been matched really well. The Vile Jester costume includes a double knit polyester shirt, matching pants, waist sash, headpiece, and character mask. This 100% polyester dress is also available in kids and medium size.

On kids costumes, we have the princess, disney, infant and the colonial costumes. You could also get specific like Star wars costumes, Barbie, Pirates of the Caribbean depending on the child’s likes. The best I liked in this set and which I plan to gift my nephew is the “Harry Potter” costume. Done elegantly, this officially licensed Harry Potter™ costume includes black robe with attached hood, burgundy accents, front close clasp and an embroidered Griffindor Crest patch on the front. This is again 100% polyester and should be hand washed cold with rim dry.

We also have the kids halloween costumes which is a great combination. The Hello Kitty witch child is superb and well knitted.

The Pink Xmas Tree

Posted by Kids and Teens in People and Society

I have always hated the artificial things that pretend to be real. I hate, for example, light food, or vegetarian fake meat. That is why, up to this point, I have always hated artificial Christmas trees. They do not fool anyone, and yet they stubbornly persist in their mimic in a way that I find most irritating and useless. If these fake Christmas trees looked a little bit less like real trees, and more like representations symbolizing real trees, then I would not be so bothered by them, but as it is I can not stand them.

The problem is that, where I live, we are not allowed to have a real Christmas pine tree, nor do we really have the room to. My wife has wanted to get a plastic Christmas tree for the last couple of years, but I have been strongly against it for the reasons given above. That is why I have decided to get a Pink Christmas Tree this year. No one is going to believe that a Pink Christmas Tree is real for even a moment, but then again a Pink Christmas Tree is not trying to fool anyone into believing. Although it is garish and tacky, a Pink Christmas Tree is absolutely at home and honest about its garishness and tackiness, and so it really does not have the same offensive qualities to it as other fake Christmas trees do, in my opinion. Really, my wife thinks that I am crazy, but a Pink Christmas Tree is the only solution to our Christmas troubles. It is an xmas tree, which she wants, and it is not a cheap facsimile, which is what I want. Instead, it is a very fake mockery.

I have decided to put the Pink Christmas Tree in the window with the lawn flamingos that have nothing to do until next summer anyway. Around them, I will put the most bright, garishly flashing Christmas lights that I can find, and decorate the whole thing with cheap plastic garlands hung with little dollar store quarter bin toys. Then my Pink Christmas Tree will have that look that I have always dreamed of for it, that look of uncompromising falsehood. Maybe next year I will get a purple Christmas tree. I can only imagine what wonders I could work with that one! But for now, the Pink Christmas Tree really hits the spot.

Choosing The Right College Major

Posted by Kids and Teens in People and Society

One of the toughest decisions that high school seniors face is choosing a college major. This decision may be easy for some, but for the majority of students entering an institution of higher learning, choosing a college major was a difficult process. Students pursuing an education not only want to be gainfully employed using the chosen college major, but they want to excel in this field (or they should want to), and not struggle through required courses if their heart really isn’t into it. Wouldn’t you agree? You surely wouldn’t want to go through med school, all the while hating the science courses and failing miserably. Some of us may also have dreams of being a famous writer, which is an honorable goal, but something has to sustain the finances in the meantime.

The internet has lots of resources on finding a college major, like by matching interests and high school test scores to find the best school and degree program. All colleges and universities post lists of college majors offered, to help prospective students decide the best areas to pursue. You should also visit Amazon at www.amazon.com or your local bookstore for books on how to choose a college major. These can be quite helpful in narrowing down all your choices, and may even steer you away from a few that may seem attractive to the ego, but not practical for any number of reasons. High school students have other resources available to them as well; school counselors are an excellent resource person whom every student should consult in planning a college major, and subsequent college choices.

The end result of course, is to have that college degree in hand, which will pave the way to the future. Dont let high tuition costs dissuade you from choosing a college major that you know you would excel in. There are lots and lots of tuition assistance programs, scholarships, grants, fellowships, paid internships, work study, in addition to other types of student loan repayment programs. Choose a college major that holds your interest, one that you can make enough at to repay your students loans, and that stimulates you intellectually and professionally. Dont choose something that you are only going to be extremely bored with in five to ten years. You may want to change careers twenty years down the road, just try to choose a college major that you can build upon, that will open doors for you throughout your life.
